Brussels: chaos expected on the ring for several weeks

DMajor work will begin on October 7 on the Brussels ring road near Anderlecht, Brussels Mobility announced on Wednesday. The work will last until the end of December, causing additional travel time of up to 45 minutes, warns the regional public service.

The bridge which spans Boulevard Sylvain Dupuis in Anderlecht and on which R0 users travel must undergo repairs. The deck of the structure has cracks, which is why the maximum speed on the ring has been limited to 50 km/h since July on this section, while passage is reduced to a single lane per direction under the bridge.

Brussels Mobility will begin work on the ring itself from October 7 and until December 20. The work will result in the closure of the inner ring between kilometers 54 and 53. As a result, traffic will be diverted to the outer ring, where two lanes will be dedicated to each direction of traffic and where speed will be limited.

45 additional minutes

During this period, access to the outer ring via the entrance ramp from Chaussée de Ninove will be closed. Users will be able to take the entrance ramp at Avenue d’Itterbeek to get onto the ring.

These provisions will have a significant impact on traffic, especially during rush hours, warns Brussels Mobility. The agency estimates the additional travel time at a maximum of 45 minutes.

This work is in addition to that carried out by the Flemish Region at the Leonard crossroads. This is why Brussels Mobility advises motorists to favor alternative means of transport to the car or, at the very least, to avoid the R0 ring.

The second phase of the Anderlecht project, namely the repair of the outer ring road towards Mons, will be carried out during the summer of 2025.
