Céline Weber, new vice-president of the Vert’liberaux: “The projects would move forward more quickly with an agreement with the EU”

This is the other victim of the decline of environmentalist parties during the federal elections in fall 2023. The fall of the Verts has in fact eclipsed that of their Vert’liberal cousins, who lost six seats in the National Council. The gain of a Zurich seat on the Council of States has somewhat softened this disappointment. In French-speaking Switzerland, this decline was particularly visible: during the previous legislature, the Vert’liberaux had three faces in the National Council: the Genevan Michel Matter and the Vaudois François Pointet and Céline Weber. The latter is the only one to have managed to get re-elected. She is therefore now the only French-speaking person in Bern, in a party which is experiencing a paradox. This loss of momentum at the federal level contrasts with good results in the canton of Zurich, where it all began for this dissident Green party. THE Green liberalization are in fact the fourth force in the cantonal parliament, with 23 elected out of 180, behind the UDC (46), the PS (36) and the PLR (30).
