Press release reopening Blaise Diagne airport

It’s a breath of relief for users of Blaise Diagne International Airport in Diass. After a few hours of closure due to an incident that occurred around 1 a.m. this Thursday, May 9, 2024, in this port infrastructure, traffic has just resumed. The announcement was made this afternoon by the airport authorities through a brief press release published on X.

“We inform you of the reopening of Blaise Diagne international airport. Airport operations have resumed normally,” wrote LAS (Limak, AIBD and Summa, the trio which manages this airport located not far from Dakar).

A flight chartered by Air Senegal missed its takeoff this Thursday at Blaise Diagne International Airport (AIBD). This plane bound for Bamako, with 85 people on board (including 79 passengers), “exited the runway”. This incident left “11 injured, including 4 serious”. And, it led the authorities of this airport to trigger “the emergency plan” which led to a temporary closure of traffic on the premises.

At this time, the circumstances in which this incident occurred are unknown. However, investigations have already been opened to try to elucidate this situation. Aviation specialists and representatives from Air Senegal are currently on site to interview crew members and closely examine flight data.
