There pike fishing opens for a new season in 2nd category rivers this Saturday, May 27, 2024. It has been prohibited since the end of January as part of its reproduction period which takes place between February and March.

A highly anticipated opening

” THE pike is a emblematic species very appreciated for its combativeness, its very impressive reaction as a freshwater super-predator”, communicates the Morbihan Federation for Fishing and the Protection of the Aquatic Environment, which brings together 24 AAPPMAs representing more than 16,000 fishing cards each year.

The “spots” of Oust and Vilaine

“On this occasion, it will therefore be possible to fish for pike with lures, live bait, dead bait or even fly fishing for the more adventurous. Several thousand Morbihan fishermen are looking forward to this meeting. Whatever the weather this weekend, they will be at the edge of the lakes, certain large rivers and ponds but also canals like Blavet, Oust and Vilaine which are very good “spots” for fishermen.

Regulations

Fishing is a activity very regulated by the law. In addition to the obligatory fishing license, each fisherman must respect the regulations in force for pike fishing. Namely, a minimum capture size of 60cm and a quota of two pike per fisherman per day.

These regulations are the same throughout Morbihan, for all fishermen regardless of classification in 1st or 2nd fish category.

Experimentation

In five demarcated sectors in Morbihan, a experimental apparatus “Capture window” is introduced. It is intended to increase number of big pike. For this, the capture size is limited between 50 and 70cm. The objective is to leave the largest subjects in the environment to increase the number of large pike. Details of the sectors on the federation’s website.

On Saturday May 18, fishing for zander, another very popular species of fish, will be possible. Here again, the opening and closing dates allow this species to reproduce quietly to ensure the sustainability of the population.
