Only one day left to enjoy the 2024 Liberation Day in Canet en Roussillon

This year again, the MVCG Languedoc Roussillon association (French Federation of Military Vehicle Conservation Groups) presents us with magnificent, perfectly maintained military pieces in the sumptuous setting of the theater of the sea in Canet en Roussillon. Guy Toureilles, President MVCG Languedoc Roussillon, and all the volunteers and enthusiasts have reconstituted a military camp filled with vehicles such as Jeep, Dodge, GMC, tanks, motorcycles and trailers… Without forgetting the good hundred people in period costume always ready to share their passion!

Tomorrow, Sunday May 8, will be the last day where you can immerse yourself in the atmosphere of liberation

Guy F6EYG informs us: “As in previous years, the Radio-Club of Perpignan (1), ADRASEC 66 (2) and CORMA (3), are invited by the MVCG Languedoc Roussillon association to participate in the exhibition of old equipment during the Commemoration of May 8, 1945 in Canet. Different period radio equipment is presented including a hand crank generator which is still very successful and which the public can try. Several vintage stations are also installed to make telegraphic contacts in front of visitors”

The team of amateur radio volunteers

This year, British veteran Dennis Donovan, who will celebrate his 100th birthday on June 10, honored the 2024 Liberation Day with his presence. He was mobilized in 1942 in the Royal Navy then sent for training in Devon at just 17 years. He was part of the 48e commando of the Royal Marines who landed on June 6, 1944 at 8:30 a.m. on the beach of Saint Aubin sur mer in Calvados in support of the Canadian troops of the North Shore regiment of New Brunswick

(1) In Catalan country, the Perpignan radio club has the call sign F6KBR and the radio amateurs who run it are very active in a wide variety of fields. Training, technical achievements, telegraphy learning courses, amateur radio transmission and reception, mutual aid and convivial moments are part of the weekly meetings on Tuesdays from 8:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. at 52 rue Maréchal Foch. You will also find all the information on the radio club website: http://www.ref66.fr

(2) ADRASEC 66 is made up of radio amateurs and listeners who volunteer to serve civil security in France in the event of a crisis such as searches for a distress beacon triggered by a plane crash or activation of the plan ORSEC. It is part of the FNRASEC, National Federation of Radio Amateurs in the Service of Civil Security

(3) CORMA is the Club of Radio Operators on Old Equipment: They are enthusiasts who restore and use vintage radio equipment. They are very active and always present at events, ready to introduce these magnificent posts to the public and explain their history.
