Search and arrest as part of the MALSAIN project: weapons are seized

Early this morning, investigators carried out a search of a residence in the Val-Bélair sector.

A 42-year-old man has been arrested for firearms offences.

He is currently being met by investigators and he is expected to appear this afternoon at the Quebec courthouse.

The search is still in progress, here is what has been seized so far:

• 1 .357 caliber pistol
• 2 .12 caliber long guns
• 1 long caliber weapon. 22
• 1 long weapon of .50 caliber
• Two prohibited high-capacity chargers as well as other types of chargers
• Multiple batches of multiple ammunition
• 3 ballistic vests and tactical items

The investigation is continuing and other searches are planned, the SPVQ indicated in a press release.

This event is part of armed violence between criminal groups, said the police service.

THE MALSAIN project is an initiative of the Quebec City Police Service (SPVQ), was launched in February 2019 to counter an increase in violence linked to drug trafficking by organized crime. It brings together around twenty SPVQ police officers from investigation units, specialized services and the patrol.
