Zurich Airport has announced plans to change its security scanners. And the implications will make life easier for travelers.

Thanks to new scanners, more and more European airports are removing strict provisions regarding liquids in hand luggage. Where scanners are used, bottles with a maximum capacity of two liters can pass the security check. Zurich Airport will also soon rely on this technology.

Spokeswoman Elena Stern told 20 Minutes:

“Scanners should be used at security checks at Zurich Airport in the future”

A tender for testing devices has been concluded, according to Elena Stern. Initially, it is planned to set up “two new control tracks for tests with the new devices”. Zurich Airport plans to be able to put the two stations into service this summer.

But in the meantime, containers containing liquids must have a maximum volume of 100 ml. It is planned that the two stations equipped with scanners will be tested for six months before the 26 security checkpoints are equipped with the new devices. The spokesperson adds:

“We assume that [la règle des 100 ml] will not fall at Zurich airport before the complete transition to the new aircraft.

But the first two stations will already provide more comfort, because thanks to the new technology, electronic devices and liquids will no longer have to be specially removed from hand luggage and scanned separately.

Oskar Freysinger from Valais, a former politician and well-known figure in French-speaking Switzerland, contacted his doctor after a hike during which he felt unwell. A good reflex, since he has since undergone a major heart operation.

He is a man that we are used to seeing and listening to on television sets, on the radio or during a conference with particularly lively energy. Here he is now in a hospital bed, surrounded by medical equipment and dressed in a patient’s gown: Oskar Freysinger underwent heart surgery, tells us Blick.
