‘A moment we will never forget’: Woman gives birth in Brussels metro, baby gets lifetime pass

“A happy event has taken place on our network!” The Brussels Intercommunal Transport Company (Stib) rejoiced on Tuesday on X (ex-Twitter) about the adventure experienced by one of its metro users last Sunday. The latter gave birth while she was travelling on the network at around 6:30 p.m., explains RTL.be.

STIB said it quickly sent agents with blankets to help and protect the privacy of the expectant mother who had started labour. Emergency services were also on site on the platform of Beekkant station in Molenbeek-Saint-Jean to ensure that the birth went as smoothly as possible.

The young woman, surrounded by her family, thus gave life to the first “baby metro” from Brussels. The mother and her little girl were then taken to hospital and are both doing well according to STIB. The latter also announced that as a “birth gift”she offered to “the new little star” of the network “a free lifetime subscription”.
