Garonne – Toulouse-Blagnac airport traffic in the 2nd quarter of 2024: slight growth

In the second quarter of 2024, - Airport (Haute-Garonne) recorded a slight growth in its traffic, up 1% compared to the same period in 2023. With a passenger volume of 83% of 2019 traffic, the airport is slowly continuing its post-pandemic recovery. However, this development reflects contrasting dynamics between national and international traffic, with a marked increase for the latter.

National traffic down: 841,421 passengers (-9% compared to Q2 2023)

Over the period from April 1 to June 30, 2024, domestic traffic represented 39% of total passengers, down 4 points compared to 2023 and 12 points compared to 2019. A total of 841,421 passengers traveled on domestic flights, a decrease of 9% compared to the second quarter of 2023.

service, although still below pre-pandemic levels, achieved a recovery rate of 63% compared to 2019, with a total of 551,875 passengers. This decline is partly explained by the reduction in Air capacity to the capital and the reduction in easyJet’s offer on certain regional destinations.

International traffic up sharply: 1,298,669 passengers (+9% compared to Q2 2023)

Conversely, international traffic continues its growth dynamic, recording an increase of 9% compared to the second quarter of 2023. This segment now exceeds 2019 levels, with a total of 1,298,669 passengers, or 104% of the volume reached before the pandemic.

This performance is largely supported by the development of connections outside Europe, which recorded an impressive increase of 95%. This boom is notably due to the arrival of Air Canada on the Toulouse-Montreal route and the strong growth in traffic to the Maghreb, thus consolidating the airport’s place in international connections.

International traffic now accounts for 61% of the airport’s total passengers, a notable increase from 55% recorded in the first quarter of 2024, confirming a refocusing of traffic on international destinations.

Freight and mail: 7,906 tonnes handled, an increase of 16% compared to Q2 2023

On the cargo and mail side, the airport handled a volume of 7,906 tonnes during the second quarter of 2024, an increase of 16% compared to the same period in 2023. However, this volume remains well below 2019 levels, representing only 48% of that year’s total.

Conclusion

The gradual recovery of traffic at Toulouse-Blagnac airport is confirmed in the second quarter of 2024, although domestic traffic continues to show signs of weakness. The performance of the international segment, particularly outside Europe, suggests a continuation of this positive momentum in the coming months, as the airport strives to return to its pre-crisis levels.
