Hanoi (VNA) – The government has issued a resolution on key measures to urgently overcome the aftermath of Typhoon Yagi, assist affected people to return to normal life, restore economic activities, boost economic growth and control inflation.

The resolution, numbered 143/NQ-CP, recalls that Yagi is the most violent in the past 30 years in the East Sea and the past 70 years on the continent, with many unprecedented characteristics that caused heavy damage to 26 provinces and major cities.

According to an updated report as of September 17, Typhoon Yagi has left 329 people dead or missing, and 1,929 injured. The material damage is estimated at more than 50 trillion dong (over 2 billion dollars), which is expected to reduce the GDP growth rate for the whole year by about 0.15 percentage points compared to the forecast of 6.8-7% for growth.

The government’s view is that support policies and solutions must be rapid, feasible, timely, effective, and directly targeted at those affected, with the simplest possible procedures. All available resources must be mobilized, managed and distributed in a reasonable and efficient manner, avoiding waste and ensuring transparency.

The beneficiaries are individuals, commercial households, cooperatives and businesses in areas affected by Typhoon Yagi and the floods, inundations and landslides it caused.

The main support period is September and October 2024. Certain support policies for retail households and businesses may be extended and supplemented until the end of 2025 to support their recovery.

The resolution sets out six groups of measures: protecting people’s lives and health; supporting the resumption of daily and social activities to help people return to normal life; helping producers, traders, cooperatives and enterprises quickly restore production, supply and work chains; making preparations to cope with future natural disasters; simplifying administrative procedures to implement support policies; and controlling inflation and promoting economic growth. -VNA
