September 2024. A festival of rap long-awaited disappears from the radar, leaving an already excited public perplexed. The organizers of the Make Some Noiseoriginally scheduled for September 20 and 21, have resigned themselves to cancelling the event. The cause is colossal financial deficits and catastrophic ticket sales that seal the fate of this musical adventure.

THE Make Some Noisewhich was launched in 2021, has been announced many times, but only 2022 managed to bring together around 2,500 urban music fans. Despite this relative success, the 2024 edition was to mark a new beginning with headliners Lacrima famous French rapper. However, the organizers reveal a worrying figure: a risk of a deficit exceeding 200,000 euros, against a budget of 300,000 euros. Caution will not be enough to fill the financial chasm that is looming.

The low turnout of the public for this year’s edition, with only a few hundred tickets sold, is a hard blow. The financial outlook no longer allowed us to calmly consider opening the festival. The repeated cancellation of the festival, previously supported by subsidies from the city and the metropolitan area ofAmiensseems to have eroded the confidence of festival-goers.

Lessons from an ambitious project

Despite municipal support, with aid of up to 15,000 euros, and the purchase of several hundred tickets for young people from Amiens, the collective effort was not enough. This support, as valuable as it is, does not compensate for the absence of a resolutely present public.

Eyes are now turning to the future. Organizers must not only refund the many tickets purchased, but also honor the subsidies received. These administrative and financial obstacles mark the end of a cultural ambition that is certainly noble, but battered by economic reality. The case of Make Noise sounds like a warning to other cultural initiatives that might want to launch without a safety net or adequate financial preparation.
