The Minister of Health and Social Protection, Khaled Ait Taleb, stressed, Wednesday in Rabat, that the availability and safety of medications against hemophilia are of particular importance for his department.

The guarantee, availability and safety of medicines for hemophilia are of particular importance to the Ministry, which has resulted in the implementation of the National Pharmaceutical Policy, which aims to promote equitable access to medicines for affordable prices, underlined the minister in a speech on the occasion of World Hemophilia Day.

Mr. Ait Taleb indicated that hemophilia is characterized by a cosmopolitan distribution throughout the world, affecting approximately 400,000 people, of whom only 30% are known, adding that in Morocco, according to the latest national census, more than 1,000 hemophiliacs are known and monitored at the level of dedicated processing centers and that the estimated workforce would amount to 3,000.

On this occasion, the minister recalled that a national plan was developed in 2010, aiming to offer patients a better life with their illness, through four areas of intervention relating respectively to screening and treatment. diagnostic and therapeutic, communication, monitoring system, evaluation, partnership and support.

Recalling that this plan has notably made it possible to improve access to quality care, through 17 care centers, among which six are referred to as reference, located at the level of university hospital centers and 11 are local centers, located at regional and provincial hospital centers, he added.

For her part, Dr. Sanaa Sayagh, general director of the Roche laboratory, which has just sealed a strategic partnership with the Ministry of Health and Social Protection as part of the national program for the prevention and control of hemophilia, indicates that all efforts are being made to make therapies available and accessible to patients who need them, specifying that the partnership with the Ministry of Health aims to improve the care of Moroccan patients suffering from this disease.

Ms. Sayagh at the same time announced that the laboratory is establishing a platform allowing the exchange of expertise while encouraging collaboration between all stakeholders with the aim of strengthening the improvement of the care of hemophiliacs. in Morocco.

This day is celebrated under the theme “Towards equitable access for all and better care of hemophilia in Morocco”, offers an opportunity to highlight the importance of working together to overcome the challenges faced by patients with hemophilia. hemophilia and their families, in order to guarantee them a healthy and quality life.
