Business is continuing for the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), under investigation for corruption and placed under supervision by the Iberian government. The Spanish press agency EFE revealed the order of the court in charge of the case, in which the magistrate suspects that the contract allowing the relocation of the Spanish Super Cup to Saudi Arabia, to the tune of 40 million euros per year, was also financed via “a payment in kind” against Luis Rubiales, president at the time, and other leaders. Payments in kind which would take form via land transfers.

“No commission in kind or anything different from the contract has been agreed”, defended Luis Rubiales, Monday April 29, in a hearing which lasted more than four hours. The magistrate recalled that the former president of the Spanish Football Federation nevertheless opened a network of companies in Saudi Arabia, including companies dedicated to the rental of real estate. The commissioner of Kosmos Global Holding, headed by Gerard Piqué, at the heart of the contract signed between the RFEF, Saudi Arabia and the company of the former Barça defender, would also have received a bonus of 3 million euros.

This affair is being closely followed by UEFA. The European football institution said it was “following the situation surrounding the RFEF closely and with great concern”. AS reported a few days ago that UEFA could simply exclude Spain from the Euro and Spanish clubs from European competitions.
