La Grange aux poneys, in Jouy-sur-Eure (Eure), near Pacy-sur-Eure, is a riding club which has managed to remain family-friendly despite its one hundred and eighty members. In 1996, Delphine Rosa started as an instructor at La Grange aux ponies with around thirty students, in this club created in 1990 by Michael Bercher.

In 2001, Delphine took it over with eighty licensees and undertook various expansions and developments. Xavier Duvinage joined her to set up a riding school and, subsequently, an owners’ stable.

The club now has around thirty adults and more than forty ponies are available at the riding school.

Recently the club purchased large carrying ponies for the large rider classes. “Given the riders’ physiognomies, our choice falls on stronger ponies,” explains Xavier Devinage. The results in regional competitions are good.

During all Norman school holidays, courses are organized at the club. Sam, 3 and a half years old, rides his pony every Wednesday morning and he took part in his first training session. “The teaching team is very attentive and the lessons are fun and adapted to Sam’s age” appreciates his mother, and, what matters to her, “the ponies are well treated”.

Animal welfare, a priority

The club offers owners boarding at the meadow. Delphine notes that, for several years, this service has been sought after, because it takes animal welfare into account. The club has also been labeled Animal wellbeingbecause it satisfied the various criteria of the French Equestrian Federation, such as the quality and adaptation of the harness, the general condition of the animals, their feet, access to water and fodder, the maintenance of the living space or even interaction with peers.

The club had to sign the equine well-being charter which has eight points, including the one which aims to offer ponies and horses a living space designed to prevent all risks of injury and illness and which allows them to adapt to climatic variations.

Margot Rolland, 23, is a full-time instructor at La Grange aux Poneys. She is assisted by two assistant instructors. Happy to live her profession-passion, she knows the club well having ridden there since the age of 6 and having spent all her Gallops there. “I’m very lucky to do this job,” admits Margot, who enjoys teaching young people. “In the presence of parents for the little ones, the baby pony class begins around 3-4 years old and lasts forty-five minutes with the preparation of the pony,” she explains. Some ponies can be entrusted to a parent to accompany their young child on a ride for half an hour, “ponies with very safe behavior!” » assures Delphine.

La Grange aux ponies is a nice little family club where children are well received.
