A magnitude 3.8 earthquake felt in Valais

An earthquake measuring around 3.8 on the Richter scale occurred during the night from Thursday to Friday near Arolla (VS). This earthquake could be felt over a wide area, according to the Swiss Seismological Service (SED) of the ETHZ.

The quake occurred at 11:25 p.m. 8 kilometers west of Arolla, the SED indicates in an automatic announcement. Generally, damage is not expected from an earthquake of this magnitude.

The Swiss Seismological Service records between 1000 and 1500 earthquakes each year. The population only feels 10 to 20. These earthquakes generally have magnitudes of 2.5 or more.
