In 2002, Bruno Solo played Napoleon Bonaparte in Philippe de Broca’s film Madame Sans-Gêne. Thursday, December 26, the actor put on his storyteller’s costume and immerses us in the history of Napoleon Bonaparte through the eighth season of the show “The War of Thrones: The True History of Europe”, on France 5 . Six new episodes that reflect how the Little Corporal shaped Europe through his family. “He put his brothers all over the place. And his sisters in a lesser role since he still remained a great misogynist, he explains. He thought about Europe in a nepotistic way.” In this new season, we find guests such as Michel Cymes as Paul Barras, president of the Directory, or even Stéphane Bern, who must have loved playing the King of England George III, and a formidable Maxime d’Aboville who plays Napoleon .

Since the Hundred Years’ War, around forty episodes have been recorded since the creation of “The War of Thrones” in 2017 and we notice that Bruno Solo has evolved his way of telling stories, sometimes being mocking and amused. He knew how to bring his touch to it. “A good storyteller must interpret and embody as best as possible, he confides. The first years, I felt the weight of History and I felt the necessary rigor of the work of historians, I still felt that I had this duty of reserve.” A completely natural commitment for him since he admits that the program gave him the opportunity to talk about this passion alongside his profession. “History has always accompanied me, as far back as I can remember. I even considered, if I had not done this job, being a historian or historical researcher.”

“I put a little of my opinions, my allegiances, my ideals even sometimes when I talked about certain characters, continues Bruno Solo. Without wanting to engage in primary feminism, I felt that it was necessary to talk about Madame de Maintenon, the Pompadour or even Marie-Antoinette in a way other than this somewhat caricatured and somewhat condescending way with which they were often mentioned. “

“We feel that we have built a loyal audience and that there is a strong appetite for the story.” Will there be a ninth season? Initially, “The War of Thrones” was supposed to end in the 18th century, with Napoleon, we are biting a bit on the 19th century, but for the moment, no end in the pipes according to Bruno Solo. “I’m not convinced that this is the end, we haven’t been officially told that it’s over.” It all depends on the audiences and these “have been very good for years”, according to him. “So I continue to imagine that there would be a season 9 talking about Napoleon III for example, the Industrial Revolution, the Commune, which is without a doubt my favorite period.”
