After a winter break of a few weeks, the American Sierra Leone (4 years old) returned to service at the start of the week, in his training center located in Florida, under the supervision of his mentor, Chad Brown. Sierra Leone had been entrusted to the tricolor Flavien Prat last spring, after his entourage estimated that the son of Gun Runner could have won the Kentucky Derby (2nd, failing by a breath) under the control of Tyler Gaffalione, his former partner. Since then, the French jockey has always been associated with the horse, which he led to success in the Breeders Cup Classic (Gr. I) on November 2 at the Californian Del Mar racecourse. Now, another prestigious event is in view for Sierra Leoneadorned with the colors of Coolmore’s associates: the Saudi Cup, worth $20 million, on February 22 in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) on the dirt of the King Abdulaziz racecourse.
