Al Cinema! Italian cinema week starts in Saint-Brieuc this Wednesday January 8

Mamma mia! Italian cinema week is back from January 8 to 14 at the Club 6 cinema, in Saint-Brieuc. On the program, no less than eight films screened in the original version with French subtitles, to enjoy these films in the beautiful language of Dante. Organized by the Amicale laïque de Saint-Brieuc, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, in partnership with the downtown Briochin cinema and with the support of the City, the festival is preparing to begin its ninth edition. Until Tuesday January 14, several screenings per day will allow you to enjoy four recent films, a youth film (in French), two preview films, and a classic by the iconic director Pier-Paolo Pasolini.

A youth film starting this Wednesday

The children’s film is “Red as the Sky”, by Cristiano Bortone (2004), the story of a child who lost his sight at 10 years old, who finds other means to perpetuate his passion for cinema and stories . It will be screened this Wednesday, January 8 at 2 p.m.

The two films in preview are first of all “Parthenope”, by Paolo Sorrentino (2024), a film selected in official competition at the last festival, where it received a nine-minute ovation. This feminine epic takes place in Naples and Capri, a small island off the coast of the city – need we say more to tempt you? This preview will close the festival, Tuesday January 14 at 8 p.m., before the proclamation of the winners of the Briochin festival, formed from the appreciations of the spectators.

Another preview, “Vermiglio”, by Maura Delpero, received the Grand Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival. The film immerses the viewer in Italy in the winter of 1944, in a mountain village in the north of La Botte. Single screening Friday January 10 at 8 p.m.

A Pasolini classic and a debate tribute

Not to be missed for film buffs, the classic “Mamma Roma”, by the immense Pier-Paolo Pasolini, will be broadcast four times, starting this Wednesday at 5:45 p.m. Saturday January 11 at 7:45 p.m., the screening will give place for a tribute to the director on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of his mysterious death on a beach in Ostia. Graziano Tassi, specialist in Italian culture and teacher at the Sorbonne and ENS de , will host a debate.

Finally, the four films are “The Otto Mountain”, by F. Van Groningen and C. Vandermeersh (2022); “La Bella Estate”, by Laura Luchetti (2023); “Astolfo”, by Gianni di Gregorio (2022); and finally “Toxicily”, a documentary by François-Xavier Destors and Alfonso Pinto on the ravages of a petrochemical complex located north of Syracuse, in Sicily.
