The end of November 2024 will have sounded the death knell of a good era for the Glou Café. At the corner of Boulevard de and Rue Bayard, the West Indian bar, well known for its rums and the atmosphere in the basement, has lowered the curtain.

One page turns to open another in this central place of . Next to the Jeanne d’Arc metro station, a stone’s throw from rue d’Alsace Lorraine. The Glou Café as we previously knew it will change completely.

Change of identity for the former Glou Café

Some five months of work are committed to creating, by April, a new establishment: the Boulevard 36. Eponym of his address.

If it takes so long before you can step through the door again, it’s because inside, the new owner and his team are reshaping everything. The Glou Café promises to be unrecognizable, although it retains its festive spirit.

The dancing atmosphere preserved

“The idea is to make a bar-restaurantatmospheric bar,” describes Galien Chevrel, the new owner, also manager of Bistrot Galien, Place Dupuy in Toulouse.

The festive side will remain in the cellar, “probably hosted by DJs”, and will be provided by the director of Boulevard 36, who lovers of the Toulouse nightlife world should know: Thibault Boisseau, the former deputy of the Le Purple nightclub .

A large terrace to come

It is more the entire ground floor which will be transformed. The 200 m² offered by the former Glou Café, including the basement, will give way to a vast “bright, authentic and modern” space offering 50 seats inside. “We are going to bring back bricks and open everything up, in a style similar to Parisian brasseries,” announces the owner. And above all, enlarge the terrace.

The veranda will be demolished to install, in total, 70 places outside in the sunon each side of the bar-restaurant which will form the corner. “It is very well exposed,” rejoices Galien Chevrel. It won’t have anything to do with it. Everything will be more open! »

Traditional cuisine revisited and local products

Well-defined roadmap, Boulevard 36 will therefore open early in the morning and close late in the evening. 8 a.m. for coffee, noon for lunch, afternoon for drinks, evening for dinner, bar and dance evenings.

On the plates, regulars of Bistrot Galien should find themselves there. The cuisine will be rather traditional with a touch of originality. “I will work as I have been doing for three years, with local productsorganic as much as possible, and which come directly from our fields,” assures the restaurateur.

Next to Salies-du-Salat, the restaurateur’s partner owns land. The vegetables for the future Boulevard 36 will therefore also be supplied by the market gardener. “It will be a bit like Bistrot Galien, but bigger and more festive! », enthuses the trader.

Patience then for those who already have their mouth watering. They will find their happiness in spring.
