According to the coroner, the 47-year-old director found dead Friday at his home in Los Angeles, ended his life.
The medical examiner ruled it suicide. Jeff Baena, director and screenwriter, married to actress Aubrey Plaza, found dead on Friday January 3 at his home in Los Angeles, ended his life by hanging.
The police and firefighters called to the scene by his assistant who had found the body, could only note the death.
Jeff Baena was in a relationship with the actress of Parks & Recreation et The White Lotus since 2011. They got married in 2021.
The director and screenwriter had worked with directors Robert Zemeckis and David O. Russell as a production assistant. He thus co-wrote with David O. Russell the screenplay for J’adore Huckabeesin 2004, with Jason Schwarzman, Dustin Hoffman, Naomi Watts and Jude Law.

He had directed the films Life after Bethwith Aubrey Plaza, John C. Reilly and Dane DeHaan, in 2014, but also Bachelor partyin 2016, Horse Girlwith Alison Brie, in 2020 and Spin Me Roundin 2022, with Alison Brie and Aubrey Plaza.
The Sundance festival, where this independent director had presented several of his films, paid tribute to him on X.
