Its facade is listed in the supplementary directory of historic monuments. But it is in another way that this Occitanie cinema made history in 2024.
The Trianon Cinema in Mende (Lozère) has in fact broken a record almost a quarter of a century old. That of the number of spectators. In 2024, it recorded 72,741 entries. To give an idea, this is almost the number of inhabitants of the department (76,503).
A new room
The president of the community of communes (and of the Department), Laurent Suau, recalls that “this is obviously due to the renovation and the creation of a fourth room which operated for its first full year”.
But this result should not be underestimated. Because, movie buffs remember, 2001 was the year of the generational hit The fabulous destiny of Amélie Poulain. A year which also saw the arrival on the screens of first part of the saga Harry Potter. But still the first Lord of the Rings, the second The Truth if I lie, the first Shrek, Tanguy… The year which has just passed was mainly able to count on A little something extra et Le Comte de Monte Cristo.
502 armchairs
The Le Trianon cinema now has four projection rooms, equipped with 502 seats in total. All rooms are accessible to people with reduced mobility, thanks to an elevator installed in the new building. All rooms are also equipped with “Audio Everywhere” technology (audio description for the visually impaired and sound reinforcement for the hearing impaired).
It is the only cinema complex in Lozère. In Saint-Chély-d’Apcher, Marvejols and Langogne, there is only one screen… Each year, nearly 200 films are screened in 45 screenings per week.
