The numerous cultural associations offered various activities in 2024 to the inhabitants of Espalionnais.
The 2nd edition of Cap Mômes in Espalion offered two exceptional days of entertainment for everyone, young people and adults, mobilizing 215 volunteers and offering 16 shows to more than 1,300 children.
The community of municipalities has concocted a varied program, aimed at boosting the attractiveness and cultural cohesion of the territory.
Music and concerts supported the various periods of the year. The Olt Singers had the wind in their sails with the show “Conquêtes”. The Espalion Singers plunged the audience into the past with their new show “Un bougnat à Paris”. The city vibrated to the rhythm of brass and percussion for two days on the occasion of the 15th edition of the Bandas Festival. The “Accordion Generation” concert featured a perfect osmosis between accordion, cabrette and dancers, during an evening attended by more than 500 spectators. A jazz concert off the beaten track resonated on the heights of Calmont Castle. The Perse and Penitents chapels welcomed several groups.
The Museum of Morals and Customs proposed an artistic and cultural project “Class, work!”, carried out by schoolchildren. It was presented to the public, accompanied by a musical show of tales from Africa. The 28th European Night of Museums gave rise to an Occitan evening dedicated to culture.
As part of the scientific and cultural project of the diving museum, the city organized a weekend dedicated to space.
The museum will also be renovated with a new visitor route and stories, through its collections which will be enriched.
Numerous exhibitions welcomed the public: Childhood of art, On the way to the year II, the workshop of the city of painters, beauty of the moment and beyond, patchwork. The Imaginarium, a place of exchange and transmission in the service of imagination and do-it-yourself, has experienced intense activity and hosted several exhibitions.
The Yaka’Venir Festival in Espalion offered 8 days of activities for children. A mural linking the present and the past was created at Place Jean-Baptiste-Cayron by Maartje Heymans. Grelh Rouergat paid tribute to the poet Albert Girbal. The open house choreographies and the Rythme et danse club’s end-of-year gala enchanted the audience. The municipal library has launched a literary meeting circle.
The Festival of Ancestral Trades attracted a large audience, around 600 people, to Calmont Castle.
One dark spot, however: the dissolution of the “Renaissance du Vieux Palais” association, chaired by Philippe Meyer who, for thirty years, had offered prestigious programs.
