With 314,000 entries in the previous year and 317,000 in 2024,
the Cinéville
de Lorient experienced a small growth (+ 1%): the national average. “We are still a long way from 2019 with almost 400,000 admissions in Lorient, but it was an exceptional year,” recalls Alexandre Mouillour, director of the cinema.
A good place for French and auteur films
The particularity of Lorient? The locomotives are French this year! Three films come out on top: The Tale of Monte Cristo (with 22,000 tickets sold), “A Little Something Extra” (17,000) and “Phew Love” (10,600 admissions). Follow “Vice versa 2”, “Moana”, “Dune 2”…
“The Lorient public has always given a good place to French films as well as arthouse films, and this year more than any other. For example, we find “Les Graines du figuier sauvage” 19th in Lorient and 60th in France as well as “En fanfare” 8th in Lorient and 32nd nationally.
Popular proposals
“A very diverse year with more films that worked,” says the director. The Lorient public is a movie buff. The Télérama festival will also offer, in a catch-up session, a selection of the best films of 2024 from January 22. In addition to exclusive releases, the public also responds to our proposals. We organize approximately one event every week: debate evening, preview as well as our “film lessons”. A meeting every two months where we invite a specialist to discuss with the public after the screening. After “Old Boy”, “Memento”, “The Big Lebowski” we will offer “Dead man” by Jarmush, then “Parasite” by Bong Joon Ho. These sessions attract up to 140 spectators.
Anticipated releases and sequels
This year we will once again find the “Filmissmo” (Italian cinema) and “Vamos” (Hispanic festival) festivals.
Among the most anticipated releases: “Mickey 17” by Bong Joon Ho, “A Complete Stranger” (biopic of Bob Dylan by James Mangold), “The Room Next Door” (the next Pedro Almodóvar with Tilda Swinton, Julianne Moore )…
And sequels: “Mission Impossible”, “Superman”, “Bridget Jones”, “Kamelot”, “Avatar 3”, “Jurassic World” and the Tuches.
A year 2025 which this year again, between blockbusters and arthouse films, will offer a vast choice to the public.
