Kerry King reveals his top 5 “perfect metal albums”

The Slayer guitarist revealed his 5 favorite metal and hard rock albums.

A few years ago, when specialized magazines delivered their “top 5”or “top 100” of the best albums of all time according to this or that criterion, it still had a little impact. More now that everyone is connected around the Earth, and artists and fans are in direct contact via social networksthese rankings have less and less impact. The most interesting thing would ultimately be to let the artists speak for themselves about their music and their influences.. Kerry King, legendary guitarist of the group Slayer, has just reveal the 5 albums he considers “perfect”.

A true purist

At 60, after a career that has already lasted since the early 1980s, one should not expect anything other from Kerry King than a top 5 which gives pride of place to the “great classics” of metal and hard rock. Nothing revolutionary, but if you want to introduce the metal/Hard Rock universe to a loved one or your child, these records are a good place to start! During his appearance on the podcast Lipps Service with Scott Lippsthe Slayer guitarist therefore revealed his selection, with, in the first name, l’album “Stained Class” de Judas Priest.

An album released in 1978, which marks the moment when, according to Kerry King, “Judas Priest found the sound that would define the band”and which also marks the peak of their popularity. We then find Black Sabbath in this top 5, with the album “Sabotage”, released in 1975which has something special with a very badass side that we find throughout the project.

The third perfect album name that comes to mind is AC/DC’s “Powerage”, released in 1978, their first album with Cliff Williams on bass. Then, Kerry King declares that he is très fan of “The Number of The Beast”, Iron Maiden’s cult album released in 1982. A group that definitely deserved to finish in the top 5, even if the artist hesitated between two albums: “It’s a tough choice between Killers and The Number Of The Beast, but from start to finish, the latter is stronger”.

Finally, the last name in this top 5 is obviously “Master Of Puppets”, by Metallica, released in 1986 and which is obviously a musical reference for any true self-respecting hard rock and metal fan. We can say that Kerry King has excellent taste, and that makes us want to listen to it all again. And you?
