“The Coffee Bar Trace in Bernay is proud to announce the launch of its workshops manga artistic practicea unique initiative that combines the love of art, Japanese culture and a friendly space to express oneself freely,” announces Magali Pépin, president of the Trace association which manages the Coffee bar on rue Louis -Gillain in Bernay (Eure).
Starting in January, these monthly workshops will offer manga enthusiasts, whether amateurs or experienced, an opportunity to develop their skills while discovering techniques and visual codes which define this fascinating art.
A specialist artist, Lorna Nuon
These workshops will be supervised by a specialist artist, Lorna Nuon. The latter will adapt to its audience.
For beginners, it will be about learning to draw and acquiring the basics of creating characters and constructing scenes.
For the “advanced”, the deepening of techniques and visual narration will be on the agenda.
The workshops will take place at the Coffee bar Trace, 10, rue Louis Gillain, where it will be possible to draw while enjoying a drink, perhaps accompanied by a treat.
These workshops are offered Wednesdays January 8 and 22, February 5 and 26, March 12 and 26, from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.. The price will be €7 per session (€5 for under 25s). One workshop offered for four workshops.
As for the precise program, here it is.
January 8 at 2:30 p.m.: Draw a face from the front (learn proportions).
January 22 at 2:30 p.m.: Draw a face in profile (learn proportions).
February 5 at 2:30 p.m.: Draw the hands (proportions and movements).
February 26 at 2:30 p.m.: Draw a body (learn proportions).
May 12 at 2:30 p.m.: Draw a manga page of 4 panels (diagram).
March 26 at 2:30 p.m.: Colorize your board and make it attractive.
What is the Coffee bar?
Table football, board games, darts… the Coffee bar of the Trace association is a friendly place where many young people can meet. This is not new, since Trace has been established in Bernay since 2014. Its main objective: promote social ties through various initiativesnotably thanks to its flagship project, the famous Coffee bar on rue Louis-Gillain. This alcohol-free space is designed as a welcoming place for young people from Bernay and the surrounding area, offering them a friendly place to meet, exchange and have fun after classes.
What about the Trace association?
« L’association Trace promotes and favors activities of a cultural and social nature in order to fight against delinquency and develop solidarity in all its forms by developing prevention, training and animation activities aimed at young people and families”, indicates Magali Pépin, vice-president of the association, and same interim president since the departure of its president, Luc Pouliquen.
The association operates thanks to a team ofaround ten volunteersmainly young adults, trained to support and guide young people if necessary.
Trace’s resources come from consumption at the Coffee Bar, donations, as well as the free provision of premises by the Protestant Evangelical Center of Bernay. All profits are reinvested in the activities.
Trace is not limited to the Coffee Bar: the association also organizes exhibitions, conferences and training to raise awareness of various themes. Recently, an exhibition on biodiversity in an urban environment welcomed high school classes, encouraging discussions and intergenerational exchanges.
