The Hebentik association launched its film festival “Xiberoa Zinez-Hebentik fait son cinéma” at the beginning of December. But the evening proposed in Laguinge-Restoue was canceled because of the storm. It will therefore be rescheduled in 2025, more precisely on Saturday January 11 in the Sallaber room from 8:30 p.m.

The highlight of the evening will undoubtedly be the screening of the documentary “Statues also die” by Alain Resnais and Chris Marker. This film, made in 1953 but banned for a long time, was commissioned by the magazine “Presence Africaine”. Starting from the question “Why is Negro art found in the Musée de l’Homme while Greek or Egyptian art is found in the Louvre?” », the directors denounce the lack of consideration for African art in a context of colonization and note the obvious racism behind these choices.

Souletin director

This screening will be followed by a discussion with Souletin film buff and director Peio Cachenaut. It is also his film “Xora” which is at the origin of this film festival which takes place every two years. Like the ancestral customs of the Basque Country, based on mutual assistance in the work of songs and harvest periods, “Xora”, produced in 2011, was the fruit of collective work. The actors, Peio Cachenaut himself, Jef Goyhenexpe and Titika Rekalt, spoke in Souletin.

African art

Previously, the dancer-choreographer Fiston Bidiefono will offer “ interdict”, a show of acrobatics, contortions and articulations drawn from his own experiences which took him from the Congo to the Basque Country. But it is with an animated film that the evening will be launched. “Black Souls” is a short film directed by Martine Chartrand, using the technique of painting on glass. This film, made in animated painting, won the Golden Bear for short film at the 2012 Berlin Film Festival.
