The floor of the Olympia theater was full, Saturday December 28 at the end of the afternoon, for the concert organized by the Arcachon Harmony Orchestra (OHA). In the audience, Arcachonnais, of course, but also Légeots since this year, the OHA had invited the Harmony of Lège-Cap Ferret to share the stage. A happy initiative from Pascale Audouze, the president, to invite a friendly orchestra every year, to end the year in music.

French and classical song

The concert took place in three parts. The OHA, directed by Jean-Paul Balsac, opened the festivities with a work by Jean-Pierre Haeck, a contemporary Belgian composer from whom he will cover a work at the end of the first part. The most festive moments were devoted to French song, in particular to Barbara and Georges Brassens, to whom they lent their voices: the singer and singing teacher from Lège-Cap Ferret Caroline Batt, Fanny Balsac, and Jean-Paul Balsac himself in a rendition of “Gorilla”, the orchestra repeating each chorus “beware the gorilla”, accompanied by the audience! The end of this sequence was a very jazzy rendition of “Copains d’abord” with solos from trumpet, clarinet, sax and trombone. A musical genre in which the OHA excels.

In the second part, the Harmony of Lège-Cap Ferret, under the baton of Julien Michel, took up the challenge of adapting great works from the classical repertoire for a harmony orchestra: finale of the 9e Symphony by Beethoven (the conductor admitting a predilection for this composer) and an extract from “Aïda”, by Verdi, before performing two very well-known Christmas tunes: “Christmas Pop Collection” and “Let It Snow”.

The two orchestras met at the end of the concert for a “jam” on two tunes of Cuban music: “Havana” and “Soul Bossa Nova” in homage to Quincy Jones, who recently passed away.

The performances of the two orchestras were very appreciated by the public who applauded them for a long time.
