More than conferences, these are speeches, talks whose vocation is to “convey brilliant ideas emanating from the territory and echoing internationally”explains Maya Hallay-Dufour, involved in the TEDx adventure (TED: technology, entertainment, design; technology, entertainment and design) in Poitiers. First as a vocal coach and now with the license which allows her to organize the event according to the principles of the foundation.
There is no desire to create buzz, but to allow the public to access information on themes covered by specialists
No Hallay-Dufour
Anglicisms abound when we talk about TEDx, we are dealing with speakers who are the speakers speaking on a stage, according to a particular scenography (on a red carpet and under the spotlights) and precise specifications. This is the case all over the world. The figures are impressive: 42 million subscribers to talks on YouTube, translated into more than sixty languages. Maya Hallay-Dufour summarizes: “It’s a publishing house in the form of video capsules in which we highlight an idea and not a person. »
No divisive subject
Keyword SEO allows videos to be viewed millions of times. “There is no desire to create buzz, but to allow the public to access information on themes addressed by specialists, never on divisive subjects in society but from different angles of view. No ideology is conveyed, the talks are neither political nor commercial. » Everything is fact-checked. “The platform is recognized for its seriousness. »
License holder
In Poitiers, these new type of conferences were born in 2019, while TEDx has existed for fifteen years and the TED foundation for forty years. More recent, TED Countdown on ecology and TEDAI on artificial intelligence have emerged. The Vox Actum association was created to organize the Poitevin event. “To be able to organize a TEDx you need a license holder who ensures compliance with the TED editorial charter (Technology entertainment design). Tatiana Guillé held this role until 2023. It’s me today”explains Maya Hallay-Dufour, a TEDx fan, who has become one of the local kingpins of the event.
Until then, the public could not exceed one hundred people. The gauge will be able to be revised upwards. “This will allow us to reduce costs. »
Last year, in June, the 5e edition, at the Republic Corner, brought together one hundred people and seven speakers on the theme Resonance. “We are just in balance”agrees the president of the Vox Actum association, which met on Saturday November 23, 2024 for an extraordinary general meeting. About fifteen people were present. To this hard core which shared the different commissions (technical and logistics, search for partners, communication, speakersspectator experience, etc.) will be able to add volunteers. “It’s very enriching, goodwill is welcome”invite Maya Hallay-Dufour.
The team will set out in search of speakers. A theme will be chosen. A preparation weekend will take place in April. The next TEDx in Poitiers should take place at the start of the 2025 school year. With the ambition to offer “a multisensory experience from which we emerge enriched”.
