Around thirty members and supporters of the Ukraine Libre association met at the Local on the afternoon of Saturday November 23, 2024. They took part in a workshop making varenykys, a Ukrainian culinary specialty.
This consists of a flour-based dough and is garnished with potatoes, stuffed cabbage, meat or even cherries. The dozens of small ravioli were then enjoyed in good spirits by the participants. Some were dressed in a vychyvanka, a traditional Ukrainian embroidered garment.
This time had a triple objective for the Free Ukraine association, which supports refugees from Vienna and compatriots who remained in the country. The aim here was to promote Ukrainian culture, raise funds for their cause and raise awareness of the 1,000 days of the start of the war as well as the commemoration of the Holodomor, a very deadly famine in 1933 in Ukraine.
