Series. Iris, a teacher, lives shared with her cousin Daphné, in her grandmother's Parisian apartment, which she could not otherwise afford. In a relationship with Claude, she constantly asks herself – and asks him – thousands of questions on all subjects: the size of the caps of household products, what to bring to a dinner, why congratulate a pregnant woman… She has an appointment with Catherine (Jeanne Balibar), her editor, who agrees to publish her first children's novel. The latter offers to use her country house to make his corrections. There Iris meets Tom (François Morel), Catherine's husband, who she likes enormously… Sometimes caustic, often unbearable, Iris doesn't just make friends in life, she even annoys and embarrasses those around her, by dint of questioning the established order, social conventions…
“Your painting is ugly”
“‘Iris’ was born from frustrations that I experienced in daily life. I found that people – and I include myself in this – said anything, all the time, above all to avoid disagreements,” analyzes Dora Tillier. The former weather miss turned actress (“Monsieur & Madame Adelman”, “La Belle époque”, “Children are kings”…) is now directing with this scathing comedy for which she co-wrote the texts and in which she takes the main role. “We live in a society where not agreeing is impossible. Even if I also find myself saying anything to avoid being out of step. We can, like Iris, be sincere: “Your lasagna is not delicious”, or “your painting is ugly”, it is neither very serious nor that shocking. Without even entering the political arena, affirming what we do not believe leads the world into falsehood. It's just wanting to be more honest. And when someone tells me that my lasagna is good, I might believe it. I'm at a stage in my life where when someone gives me a compliment, it doesn't touch me and doesn't even make me happy. This takes away a lot of meaning from things. »
Say out loud what you're thinking
Scenes experienced, or invented, Iris says, in any case, out loud what Doria Tillier – and many of us – do not always dare to express. Moreover, she had to defend “Iris” to Canal+. “When writing, some asked me if she wasn't a little harsh, a little aggressive. I had to convince them, even though I am well aware that she is obsessive, annoying, unbearable,” laughs the actress, who wants to cultivate the difference, the personality of each person without being locked into a mold. We think of the irreverent series “Fleabag”. Doria Tillier rather claims inspiration from “Seinfeld” or “Ally McBeal”, between comedy, sentiment, romanticism and poetry.
A series that makes you laugh and is disturbing, not to be missed. Before a season 2? The actress would love to do it again!
