Pont-l’Évêque: the young rapper MT-X will release a second album in one year

When rap overcomes shyness. At 21, Mathéo Pain took the step of exposing his music to as many people as possible, and plans to release a second EP (short album) at the end of the year.

A certain satisfaction in writing

The native of Caenresident Pont-l’Évêque (Calvados) for three years, fell into this musical genre around ten years ago. “ My whole generation listens to rap now, the artist explains. “We almost only hear that on the radio.” And very quickly, a certain style of rap stood out to him. ” I’ve always loved listening to rappers who have stories to tell. Like Guizmo, for example, or Razmo who I listen to a lot at the moment. But I sometimes listen to everything, like reggae. »

There is loving having rap in your ears, and loving writing rap lyrics. For the Pontépiscopien, it is both. And it started in high school. “It was in the second year, we had a craze with a friend.” A craze that quickly became a passion. “It brings me a certain satisfaction to write, to talk about myself, he delivers. I am someone who does not really manage to talk about myself in real life, but through rap, yes. ” Lines of text that follow one after the other. The music is written, but will not be released until February 2024, four or five years later.

Shyness put aside

Because between writing sounds and singing them publicly, there is a certain gulf separating. And the rapper is not the one who will say otherwise.

I liked to do things on my own. I wanted to be sure of myself before I started.

Then a certain shyness held him back. “I was very reserved before. But since rap, writing lyrics allows me to open up about myself and others. My self-confidence has evolved. »

So Mathéo decided to get started last February, under the artist name MT-X. “MT for Mathéo, and the X, well I don’t know,” he laughs. The Norman directly releases six sounds, all written when he was in high school, arranged in an EP, equivalent to a small album. Two other titles will be released some time later, with two music videos. Rap in which he talks about “a little bit of everything.” There is a summer sound, another one a little more techno. As I wrote them several years ago, the lyrics are less developed than today.”

Six new sounds are coming

Inevitably, with age and experience, the quality of the texts imagined and written evolves. This is what MT-X ensures, who plans to release his second EP, of six songs, next December. “It will be centered on a single theme: family and friends. I talk about my experience, about betrayal, about disappointment, he confides. It will be much more qualitative than the first. » A clip will accompany the release of the EP, another will arrive a few weeks later.

Still studying, working as a salesman in Pont-l’Évêque, Mathéo Pain has no illusions about the probability that music will become more than a passion. “The step seems too high. Today, I lack the visibility to hope for more. But in an ideal world, of course I would like to make it my job,” he delivers.

The stage, an upcoming desire

The years pass, confidence grows, and other desires emerge, such as that of performing on stage soon. “I was offered the opportunity to open for Caen following the release of my first EP. But I didn’t feel ready yet,” says the Pontépiscopien. “At some point, I know I’m going to do it, that’s for sure.” The primary objective remains his second EP, soon to be released.
