Designed by the Chanakya workshops and Chanakya School of CraftTHE embroidered works monumental, true reproductions and reinventions of the paintings of the American artist Faith Ringgold, are the centerpieces of the scenography of the last Dior fashion show. A catwalk decor carefully chosen by Maria Grazia Chiuriartistic director of the House, who has a deep interest incraftsmanship and the promotion/valuation of artisans.
Go to the sculpture garden, at the back of the museum, where the scenography of the last Dior fashion show was erected among the works of Rodin. For 6 days exceptional, discover the work of Faith Ringgoldwhich disappeared this year, through the shimmering creations of Munbai artisans, lining the walls of the ephemeral space.
From the outside, the slogan “Freedom Woman”, covering the entire facade, sets the tone.feminist artist, engaged in struggles against racial discrimination and even misogyny, was also renowned for its political posters. The installation condenses its flagship creations all around you. In a profusion of bright colors, it reveals 32 panels approximately 4 meters high, following one another along blue walls, 3 courtepointes patchwork type in the center and a series of standards “Free Yourself” inspired by Tibetan Tangkas (paintings on silk or cotton), suspended from the ceiling.
THE XXL panels are available in three series: sport (in a nod to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games), fashion and music. This year, the mosaic squares and the pearls of rockery replace the usual embroidery flat areas, to color the different portraits. A beautiful couture tribute to Faith Ringgold, made famous by her “mosaic paintings” and a colossal work that took almost a year and a half to complete.
