IMMACULATE – Religion and its Applications

IMMACULATE – Religion and its Applications

What if we pushed the miracle to its paroxysm? Between dogma and genetics, some bigots spare no expense when it comes to giving birth to Christ…

In rural and religious Italy, a young American nun enters the convent of Sainte-Thérèse to take her vows. Following the happiness it brings her, she will quickly witness strange phenomena that go beyond the simple explanation of dementia of the elderly residents, all former nuns. Once you enter Sainte-Thérèse, you apparently never leave.

A film falsely classified under Horror, in my opinion, because it is closer to a psychological and ethical thriller than simple horror. The subject is a debate in itself. The portrait depicted here ventures down several paths, all of which are interesting to explore. Aren’t religion and its darkness often more dangerous than the light that its detractors can bring?

Innocence, trauma, indoctrination, the realization of dogmatic fantasies are all paths in which humans most devoid of respect for others and empathy indulge.

This film is therefore not in the right place in the labels that often mislead the public. Horror film lovers with their share of monsters and demons will be disappointed while thriller fans will simply ignore this work that will undoubtedly be missing from their collection. So do not trust the pitch and the genres. It would be a shame, really, to miss this very short feature film.

In terms of atmosphere, the sets are also in line with the progression of horror caused by humans in many ways. I think that Immaculate will raise a lot of questions and heated discussions and that’s a good thing. After all, a disturbing film is an excellent vector for social evolution, right?
