American actress Taraji P Henson will host this year’s BET Awards – the annual ceremony that honors African-American and minority personalities. The star feels very delighted in a role that she particularly likes.

“It’s an honor to present such an event. Because it’s the biggest night in culture. Some of the biggest stars are there. We’re being introduced to a lot of new talent. Politicians, people from all walks of life ; leaders in the communities. It’s the biggest evening in culture, I don’t know how else to say it, and the fact that I’m entrusted with the role of hostess of the evening is a real honor. Henson said.

Henson compares the role of an awards show host to that of a stage actor.

“For me, I feel most comfortable in the theater. Believe it or not, because I was trained in the theater. I love the stage. I love the instant reactions of the audience. I love the synergy between the energy I give to the audience and the energy they give back to me. There is nothing like live theater,” he said. she declared.

Ms. Henson called the BET Awards a “safe space” for black culture.

“It’s important that BET highlights the culture and us. Because if we didn’t have BET, how would the little ones know that all this greatness exists? How will we inspire each other if we don’t Don’t we see? So it’s a safe space for us to encourage each other, whereas sometimes in this industry we don’t get the opportunity to see each other lifted up and celebrated like that.” she declared.

Drake leads the nominations with seven awards, including album of the year for his eighth studio album, “For All the Dogs.” One of the awards he’s up for is the music video for “First Person Shooter,” his collaboration with J. Cole that may have been the catalyst for his recent feud with rapper Kendrick Lamar. Nicki Minaj follows with six, including album of the year for her highly anticipated “Pink Friday 2.”

And Taraji says she can’t wait to see Will Smith perform a new song at the party.

“Whatever Will sings, I’ll be there to enjoy it, because we know he’s had some hits, but you know, it’s summer. I just thought I’d say it. But I can’t wait to hear his new music. I’m just excited, like Will, come on, you gotta let him know,” Henson said.

The BET Awards take place on June 30 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
