Rape of minors: Jean-Luc Lahaye asks the courts to cancel one of his indictments

He continues to proclaim his innocence. Singer Jean-Luc Lahaye, indicted on November 5, 2021 for the rape of two minors, has asked the Paris Court of Appeal to cancel one of the two indictments, BFMTV revealed on Wednesday, information confirmed by Le Parisien. His request is to be examined Thursday at 9 a.m.

The star of the 1980s was arrested in the fall of 2021 after two complaints filed against him by two former teenage fans. Roxane and Émeline (names have been changed) both accuse him of having used his notoriety and his aura to obtain numerous sexual relations of incredible brutality when they were only young, infatuated and impressionable teenagers, aged at the time of 16 and 17 years old.

The 71-year-old singer was indicted for “rape”, “rape and sexual assault on minors under 15” as well as “corruption of minors” and placed in pre-trial detention. He was released from La Santé prison in May 2022 under judicial supervision.

Banned from stage

For his part, Jean-Luc Lahaye has always firmly contested any violent or forced sexual relationship. He mentioned consensual relationships with these young women. In 2023, he asked the investigating judges to cancel his indictment concerning the facts denounced by Roxane, by sending messages sent by the teenager at the time to weaken his accusation. But the judges, not convinced, refused his request. This is why he decided to appeal to the Paris Court of Appeal.

The singer had planned to return to the stage at the end of 2022, the investigating judge had decided otherwise by toughening his judicial control. According to an order issued in October of that year, Jean-Luc Lahaye is now “banned from exercising the professional activity which would have allowed the commission of the offenses for which he is indicted”. The court of appeal confirmed his ban on returning to the stage a few weeks later.
