“We realized that there was a real public appetite for this type of program“, comments Julie Denayer, who has long been at the helm ofA perfect crime and which nourishes, for the news item, a real passion. “We thought of RTL District as a city under tension, with different neighborhoods. We will find that of the guardians of the law, with Bertrand Caroy, that of the masters of crime, that of urgent matters. The series will instead be broadcast in the evening.“
Curiosity and suspense
Julie Denayer explains this public appetite in different ways. “Some studies have been carried out and one of the explanations is that these shows which scare us a little, we watch them while sitting comfortably on our sofa, telling ourselves that it doesn’t happen to us. There is also an element of curiosity, we often see it on the road. When there is an accident, people slow down to watch what is happening. Human beings have this somewhat dark side… Finally, there is also suspense. The viewer is taken by the hand and doesn’t want to let go“, explains the journalist.

During her journalism studies at UCLouvain, Julie Denayer was already interested in news items. “Because I find that there is nothing more human”she said. “I am lucky to meet people who tell me their stories. Generally, victims, or relatives. It takes a lot of courage to do that.” Today, the young woman produces many programs of this type, she presents some of them – a special on the Mazan rapes is coming very soon – but considers her luck in being able to also do “something else”. “It’s important not to do just that.”she said. Understand “to breathe far from the darkness of the world”.
Although we will find familiar faces from RTL – Caroline Fontenoy, Michaël Miraglia and Julie Denayer, in particular – RTL District will, however, not have a dedicated presenter.
