The Charlevoix Geopark launched its first publication aimed at young people on Thursday, The Adventures of Edgar and Laura.

The book reports on the adventures of Edgar and Laura, two young Charlevoisians, who go to discover the region and its geological attractions.

The literary project was written by Nadia Murray, who is also a literature teacher at CECC, and illustrated by Karine Deschênes, graphic designer. “It was during discussions with Jean-Michel Castonguay from the Geopark that we said to ourselves that it would really take living characters, which gives an interesting color,” explains Ms. Murray.

“A geopark is built thanks to the geological heritage and the community of people who want to carry out the project, they can be scientists, teachers or young people,” indicates the coordinator for the Charlevoix Geopark, Félicia Corbeil-Labbé .

The organization has revealed that the two characters in the book will also be the youth ambassadors of the Geopark. This role could be reflected in their presence in different geological sites in the region.

The young people present at the book launch also took part in a ceramic sculpture workshop to create a percussion cone.

The book will be available in stores in the region’s observatories, as well as for rental in libraries. One copy per Charlevoix school will also be distributed.
