Saturday June 22, Les Concerts de Pocket, in conjunction with the Socio-Cultural Committee (CSC), presented a concert at the Bergerie with Justine Metral (cello) and Mathilde Nguyen (piano). In the first part, twenty CP students from Ms. Antérieux from Marcel-Pagnol elementary school performed four songs, including one of their own composition. They were accompanied on piano and cello by the two artists of the concert which followed. To prepare for this show, they began in March with choir workshops taught by choir director Amine Soufari.

At the end of the student choir, Justine Metrak and Mathilde Nguyen took their places on stage. Mathilde clarified: “Justine and I met during our time at the Paris Conservatory and we like to meet up regularly at concerts.”

Audience won over

It is a deep friendship and an artistic and musical complicity that brings this duo together. These young women perform unique music with creative and playful energy. Justine explains: “I started music at five years old. Today, I travel the world. I have been to Austria, Morocco and England.” As for Mathilde, she also started music and the piano very early. She looks back on her journey. “My parents were tuners of this instrument. I attended high school and the Boulogne conservatory before going to the Paris conservatory. I play in other groups, trios, and even quartets.” The two artists also have a project of recording the works of Nadia Boulanger. During the concert, three works by the musician and Camille Sait-Saëns were performed as well as those by Rita Strohl, Astor Piazzolla and Sergei Rachmaninov.

There was a large audience at the Bergerie. The student choir received thunderous applause for their excellent performance. It was the same for the two artists of the concert. The Concert de Pocket association was created in 2005 with the concept of addressing all types of audiences, through percussion, writing, composition workshops, etc. It is located in Seine-et-Marne and has six regional structures including one in Toulouse for Occitanie.
