Two men, a tall thin man and a short one with glasses who discuss daily life in the Grand Duchy. Simple black and white cartoons with a photo of a place in Luxembourg as a backdrop, “so that people can identify directly”. “Les Gars du Lux” have created a real active community of more than 9,200 subscribers on Instagram and more than 6,100 subscribers on TikTok. Humor, fun and simplicity help attract an audience with a varied profile. You could almost compare them to “South Park”.

Behind these characters, we find a Luxembourger in his forties who wishes to preserve his anonymity. These videos bring it to life thanks to advertising placements. He writes the jokes, does the voices of the two characters and the drawings, while his sidekick takes care of the technical aspect. “At first, I just wanted to mess around and stay in the space and make the local people laugh,” the designer explains.

“I imitate a guy who was with me in class and who spoke about himself in the 3rd person. There are no really defined subjects, I take up the codes of my youth in Luxembourg, the relationship with cross-border workers, public transport, local shops…”. Among the boxes: the video on superheroes if they were Luxembourgish. “Spiderman would hang in the cranes of Kirchberg, Batman would work at Spuerkeess, Superman would have a double life as a bartender at Melusina.”

To get more views, and appear in France’s algorithms, the two characters also gently mock border workers. These are the videos that get the most views.

Such a success that a first “Les Gars du Lux” evening will be organized at the Lenox Club, in Luxembourg City, on Friday July 5. An evening to bring this whole community together in joy and good humor. “I said I would have a party for 5,000 followers, we are now almost at 10,000 subscribers.”

On the program: rappers LIL Star, whose album “Étrange Phénomène” was released, Louvar and Lejetski. A giant screen will also allow for an animated live broadcast with the two “Gars du Lux”.

334,000 views is the number of views achieved by the video “Imagine t’es Français” on the Instagram account of “Gars du Lux”, which makes fun of tobacco tourism. Followed by “In the bus”, on the cars of cross-border workers, with 156,000 views, “A thing with Weiler” with 109,000 views, “Imagine the super heroes they would be Lux G” with 107,000 views and finally “So much style G” with over 106,000 views.
