Jim’s novel is the very sensitive adaptation of the eponymous novel by Pierric Baillyproduced by Arnaud And Jean-Marie Larrieu who insisted on keeping the title of the book.
Summary : Aymeric meets Florence, a former work colleague, during an evening in Saint-Claude in Haut-Jura. She is six months pregnant and single. When Jim is born, Aymeric is there. They spend beautiful years together, until the day when Christophe, Jim’s natural father, arrives…
The camera of Larrieu brothers captures the daily life of the characters, people we rarely talk about but who are familiar to us:
“There is a question of social class, people who get by with small jobs, often in temporary work. We all have this way of navigating the life we love. The way in which parental or romantic relationships are constructed in the novel also made us complicit. »
The central character, Aymeric played by Karim Leklouraised Jimmy like his son; it is similar to “certain people, in certain social circles, for whom there is a financial and mental barrier to going to the other side of the world. It’s like an Everest, it’s too huge” explains Jean-Marie Larrieu.
When Florencethe character of Laetitia Doschleaves with his son Jimmy – Eol Person from 7 to 10 years old – in Canada with his biological father Christopher, interpreted by Bertrand Belinleaving Aymeric behind them, there is a sort of inevitability “where everyone has their reasons, where the intention is not to do harm, nor to triumph in the name of good, but to move forward in life in the fairest way possible with the means at hand” adds Arnaud Larrieu.
Aymeric does not go to Canada to look for his son: “We prefer characters who do not anticipate their actions. Sometimes we don’t realize that at one point we should have acted in a certain way and we find ourselves in an inextricable situation. This is what we wanted to talk about. ” resumes Jean-Marie Larrieu.
Through the photos he takes regularly, Aymeric stands at a distance and looks for his place. He accumulates clichés without really knowing what to do with them. He simply senses that one day he will have to tell his story:
“What do these thousands of recorded photos of our lives mean? How to organize them? It’s not the past, it’s like a present that doesn’t pass. This is the moment when Aymeric must reclaim what he has experienced. It’s the return of the son. We are in the contemporary. Aymeric And Jimmy they’re going to have to talk to each other…” concluded Jean-Marie Larrieu.
