Emerse Faé, assistant at the qualifying draw ceremony

Emerse Faé, after leading Côte d’Ivoire to victory at the 2023 CAF Africa Cup of Nations, will be in South Africa from this Wednesday to participate in the draw for the qualifiers for the CAF CAN Morocco 2025. The ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, July 4, 2024 in Johannesburg, where the Ivorian technician will play an assistant role, informs CAF.

At 40 years old, Emerse Faé has just lived a true fairy tale with the triumph of the Elephants of Côte d’Ivoire at the last CAN. Appointed interim head of the selection, Faé led his team to the final victory, a memorable feat in the history of African football. A former defensive midfielder and Ivorian international with 44 caps to his name, Faé built his reputation mainly in France, having started his career at FC Nantes in 2003 and then played for OGC Nice and FC Reading in England. Forced by injuries, he retired at only 28 years old. His coaching career began with the Nice U19s in 2012, followed by a period at the head of the Clermont Foot 63 reserve team. In 2022, he became Jean-Louis Gasset’s assistant before replacing him during the 2023 CAN.

He will thus play an assistant role during the draw ceremony for the qualifiers for the CAN CAF TotalEnergies Maroc 2025, organized by CAF in Johannesburg. This ceremony will determine the groups for the qualifications of the next Africa Cup of Nations. The following teams will be involved in the draw: Morocco (host country), Ivory Coast, Algeria, Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Congo, DR Congo, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Libya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sao Tome & Principe, SenegalSierra Leone, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
