In 2003, Clotilde Courau, then an actress, married Emmanuel-Philibert of Savoy, pretender to the Italian throne. To her great dismay, their sumptuous marriage also had repercussions on her career in the 7th art, as she reported on RFM France.
A story worthy of a fairy tale. More than twenty years ago, the famous actress Clotilde Courau married Emmanuel-Philibert of Savoy, pretender to the throne of Italy, during a sumptuous ceremony held in the Basilica of Sainte-Marie-des-Anges-et-des-Martyrs in Rome. With this marriage, the former companion of Guillaume Depardieu thus became Princess of Venice and Duchess of Savoy. Loving each other like the first day, the main parties also became the parents of two daughters Vittoria (2003) and Luisa (2006).
Despite her titles, Clotilde Courau has made simplicity and discretion a rule of life. To this day, she continues to distinguish herself in the film industry while fulfilling her commitments as a member of the Italian royal family. But the mother had to fight to pursue her artistic career. Something which was not easy as she pointed out this weekend in 1 hour with… Bernard Montiel’s show broadcast on RFM.
Clotilde Courau talks about her crossing of the desert
“I think people locked me up“, regretted Clotilde Courau who notably found comfort in the musical repertoire and correspondence of Edith Piaf. “After your marriage?“, asked the host, taken aback. “Of course, they locked me up and that’s normal“, added his interlocutor. Confidences which naturally made Bernard Montiel react: “Do you think some people were afraid to turn you around because you were a princess?“.
Things have slowed down a lot for me
Philosophically, Clotilde Courau then underlined: “We put people in boxes. And that it is unfortunately a place where we are in the communitarianism of things, we see it. We all suffer from it. But sometimes we are so afraid of going somewhere else that it is so dizzying that we tend to self-destruct. Or self-censor”.
In his eyes, “people out of desire” can also reveal their dark side. “Because envy is part of our humanity and it’s not the most beautiful thing. Jealousy and envy mean that at a given moment, Things have slowed down a lot for me.” continued Clotilde Courau, in complete transparency. “And once again I took them as a test but also as a challenge. It allowed me to see how much I loved my job for the right reasons (…)“.
