Street arts will be in the spotlight in Saint-Michel-de-Lanès. Next September, the La Marèla association is organizing the fifth edition of the Festival of artistic and rural expressions, in partnership with the Occitanie region, the Aude department, the Castelnaudary Lauragais Audois community of communes and the Saint-Michel town hall. de-Lanes. For two days, Friday September 6 and Saturday September 7, local and regional artists, from the world of music, theater and even circus, will be on display.

Dance, circus and music: an “eclectic program”

“We wanted to highlight an eclectic program, which covers all artistic disciplines,” assures the association. The artists will perform, during the festival, in the streets and parks of Saint-Michel-de-Lanès. Visitors will be able, for example, to admire puppets made from soap by a Toulouse artistic company, or even a tightrope walking performance five meters above the ground.

For those who are interested in the fourth art, several musicians will perform during the day on Saturday. Le Tacot Barbarie, made up of two singers and musicians, will stroll through the streets on a sort of pedal machine. Emilie Cadiou and Aude Bouttard will perform personal compositions as well as songs borrowed from Georges Brassens, Brigitte Fontaine and Dick Annegarn. Finally, two orchestras, called Gros Débit and the Cardboard Orchestra, will make the public waltz.

Dance will also be in the spotlight, since a contemporary dance choreography will be performed by a dancer from the Chaurian company Quintessence.

Two concerts to open and close the ball

This rich program will be complemented by an exhibition that visitors will be able to admire in the streets of Saint-Michel-de-Lanès. “Visitors will be able to find ceramics, painting, sculpture, photography, stained glass windows just like last year,” specifies the association. An artist will also lend himself to the reading of his texts and poetry. As for entertainment for children, a magician will wander around to perform a few tricks to light up lots of stars in the peepers.

The festival will kick off with an opening ceremony on the evening of Friday September 6. The event will also close with a concert by Alfredo Buendia y los Picaflores on Saturday evening.

Looking for volunteers

In order for the festival to take place in the best conditions, the La Marèla association is actively looking for volunteers. They will be responsible for pre-assembling and dismantling the structures, welcoming artists and spectators, the ticket office, and even the refreshment bar and catering areas.

Last year, the fourth edition of the festival attracted more than 800 people. Will the Chauriens be there again this year?
