Belgian singer Mustii looks back on his failure at Eurovision: “I’m not proud of my performance”

While Belgium had high hopes for him, singer Mustii failed to qualify for the grand final of the Eurovision Song Contest on May 9. With his title “Before The Party’s Over”, he failed to excite the European public, only finishing 13th in his semi-final.

A huge disillusionment for the French-speaking singer who had not yet reacted to this early elimination. But the man who goes by the name Thomas Mustin in everyday life took up his pen and confided in a long post published on Instagram.

After the Eurovision Contest, Mustii went to Thailand to unwind: “Honestly, I’m still getting over it. During the adventure, I was not the happiest man for various personal reasons, but I will not dwell on that now.”

”I’ve had my ups and downs and I’m definitely not happy with the end result, nor proud of my performance. I wasn’t fully connected to what was happening around me”continues the singer, “between you and me, I’m not sure I was the right person for this competition, even though I learned a lot and met some great people.”

Rediscover the pleasure

Despite the criticism received after his elimination, Mustii does not intend to change his unique style: “Some will say I lost feathers or burned my wings…. But I do not agree. On the contrary, I gained new feathers. My philosophy has always been: try, make mistakes, persevere, grow, change your point of view and transform. This is what my parents instilled in me and this is what I try to live, with humility and passion.”

The singer is already working on a new project. So, a new album is in full preparation: “This one will be freer, more queer, more personal, more positive and more festive. This will be my response, my reaction, my cry for life.” Mustii also explains that he wants to find pleasure in music again.
