Back on the big screen. The next film by rapper Orelsan will be called “Yoroï” and will be released in theaters on October 22, 2025, distributor Sony Pictures announced in a press release. The rapper announced in September at Planète Rap that the project was on track: “We finished filming, more or less, and we are starting the editing. »
After “Comment c’est loin”, released in 2015, the interpreter of “Basique” returns in a new feature film directed by David Tomaszewski. The two men are also the screenwriters of the film, in which Orelsan will have the main role. They are used to working together since the 40-year-old director has already directed several clips of the artist at the 12 Victoires de la Musique: “Blocked” with Gringe, “The Fear of Failure” and even “The Odor gasoline.”
An intrigue in Japan
If we are to believe the elements given by the synopsis, this new film should take us to the other side of the globe, towards the Empire of the Rising Sun. “After a last grueling tour, Aurélien decides to settle in Japan with his wife Nanako, pregnant with their first child. While the young couple moves into a traditional house in the Japanese countryside, Aurélien discovers an ancestral armor in a well which will awaken strange creatures, the Yokaïs…”, we can read in the press release from Sony Pictures.
Among the little information distilled by the distributor, we learn in particular that he will share the poster with Clara Choï. The young actress has already appeared in several films, including “Sage-homme” last year with Karin Viard, and “Chamber 212” by Christophe Honoré. We could also see him in mini-series like “Louis 28” on france.tv or “The Veil” on Hulu. To find out the rest of the cast, you will have to wait.
Orelsan, whose real name is Aurélien Cotentin, is moving into a completely different register ten years after “Comment c’est loin”. The very autobiographical film that he made with Christophe Offenstein evoked the struggles of Orel and Gringe, two young rappers in the early 2000s who were looking to break into the world of music. The film attracted 244,633 spectators in theaters.
