The painter Jorge Colomina opened a gallery on the quays de la Fontaine in Nîmes in 2022.
This Thursday evening, the painter Jorge Colomina invited his collectors to celebrate his 50 years of life as an artist. Based since 2022 on the Quais de la Fontaine where he created the By C Gallery, the artist began painting at the age of 15. It’s when he meets his wife that he changes. “She told me: do what you know how to do”, he remembers. From the outset, he found this path that he has been following for half a century. “At my parents’ house, there are still paintings no. 5 and no. 7, there is already the patchwork, the colorful side, very lively”continues the artist.
Debuts on the French Riviera
After working in the 1980s on the Côte d’Azur, Jorge Colomina moved to the Paris region, continuing his work by exhibiting in artists’ salons, before a gallery opened its doors to him on Place des Vosges in Paris. . Today, it is presented in France, Spain, Luxembourg, soon in Miami…
After falling in love with Nîmes, he settled near the Fontaine gardens and continued to paint faithfully with a spontaneous gesture. “When I start painting, it’s already in my head. A color or a line may vary, but I know where I’m going”explains the artist, who represents almost exclusively female bodies and faces.
After 50 years, it retains the same deliciousness. “The path was full of pitfalls, but we are experiencing an exceptional human adventure”underlines the couple, who are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary at the same time.
