Quentin Tarantino’s retirement plan
In 2009, Quentin Tarantino announced that he planned to retire at the age of 60, after thirty years of career. Since then, the American director has not only celebrated his sixtieth birthday, but also his sixty-first earlier this year. In 2014, the filmmaker finally changed his mind, preferring to retire after his tenth film. No sooner than 2023, this famous ultimate feature film should have taken the form of The Movie Critica cynical work focusing on a critic working for a pornographic magazine in the 1970s, starring none other than Brad Pitt on display.
But it was in April 2024 that the information broke: Quentin Tarantino abandoned the project after a little over a year of development. Back to square one for the director, whose tenth and final film will therefore not see the light of day anytime soon. Nothing shocking in itself, since Tarantino has accumulated a pile of abandoned scripts almost as big as him over the years, but his reluctance to make his latest work seriously begins to exasperate other Hollywood filmmakers, and some really don’t have their tongue in their pocket…
Ridley Scott doesn’t believe it for a single second
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ridley Scott not only spoke about his experience as a director after nearly fifty years of career, but also gave his opinion on Tarantino’s retirement plans. For Ridley Scott, there is no question of retiring, and he intends to continue making films until his death. Aged 86 (soon to be 87), Scott admitted to taking his cue from Clint Eastwoodwho continues to produce feature films at the age of 94, and not believing for a second that Quentin Tarantino would stop anytime soon.
“I don’t believe this bullshit. Shut up and go make another movie.”
Ridley Scott, The Hollywood Reporter
The journalist and Ridley Scott seemed to be of the same opinion, both convinced that when you love doing something so much, it is not so easy to stop everything overnight, and that Tarantino would eventually return – even after his tenth film. A speech very different from the reserved words of Martin Scorsesewho, unlike Ridley Scott and his sharp tongue, did not wish to express himself on the subject.
