With more than 2,000 entries over five days, the 14th edition of Tarba en Canta confirmed the success of this international festival created to highlight polyphonic singing from here and elsewhere. Concerts, singers, masterclasses and conferences were sold out.

“This 14th edition is a huge success and it is a great satisfaction for us,” rejoiced the director of the Tourist Office, Michel Garnier, the day after “Tarba en Canta”, a festival organized by Tarbes Tourisme and the town hall of Tarbes. Born fourteen years ago from the initiative of the mayor of Tarbes, Gérard Trémège, and his singing teacher, Pascal Caumont, a well-known figure in Occitan polyphonic singing and now artistic director of the festival, this meeting is particularly popular with music lovers. has become over the years one of the unmissable events in the city of Tarbes on the eve of summer.

“Singing allows us to get together and that is the objective of this festival. The success was there from the first edition and it continues from year to year with an ever-increasing audience, from Tarbais but also from people who come from far away. Tarba en Canta is now well anchored in the city and the programming continues to expand, with always the same demand for the quality of the groups which, this year, has reached a new level. 14th edition was of very high quality and the children of the conservatory were also remarkable”, underlines Michel Garnier.

And this, without ever losing this concern to make the festival accessible to as many people as possible thanks to attractive prices (from €5 to €10 for concerts), or even free for several events such as aperitifs-concerts, cantères or even this “mainats” day dedicated to children.

The young Corsican musicians from Una Fiara Nova wonderfully brought the songs of the Isle of Beauty to the Saint Jean church.

“If, at the beginning, the festival was free, the concerts today require payment to guarantee quality but the prices are symbolic and we are committed to it. It is a strong desire of the city,” praises Michel Garnier. The bet was won since the public responded en masse. That’s more than 2,000 tickets sold over the five days of the festival, not counting the success of the free events. “We have never had such a large turnout that we were obliged, reluctantly, to refuse people, like during the concert of Basque and Corsican groups at the Saint-Jean church. We never repeat it enough but for our various events, it is safer to make reservations,” he invites.

We have been warned at a time when summer is just beginning in the city of Tarbes with its many upcoming events. Starting next week, with the Tarbes festivals (June 20 to 23), then the Equestria festivals (July 16 to 21) and Tarbes en Tango (August 17 to 25).
