The morning was a little different this Friday at the RTL editorial staff.

Every morning, Sandrine Dans and Thomas de Bergeyck accompany Bel RTL listeners by hosting the radio station’s morning show from 7 a.m. A morning meeting that began in April last year for the duo. On the program, news, regional news, weather, road conditions… All the news is reviewed, even when Sandrine Dans has to make an important announcement after a long reflection.
This morning, this was once again the case. Except for one small detail. When discussing the news, Sandrine Dans did not hesitate to comment on one of them, explaining that it also had consequences for them. Indeed, this Thursday evening, a major fire broke out in a company specializing in waste treatment and recycling, located on Allée Verte in Brussels.
Although it is now under control, a smell remains present in part of the capital. A smell that all RTL employees have visibly smelled. When discussing this information, the one who will no longer be at the head of “Love is in the meadow” because “she had done the trick” commented on it by saying that “the fire released this pungent smell which takes us even to our premises.” This will be confirmed by Oliva François, journalist for RTL, who was at the scene of the fire, describing the smell. “Even in the RTL editorial office, smells of rubber, paint… that we smelled over a long distance”
As a reminder, the fire started in a pile of old washing machines and old boilers, generating a large plume of smoke which headed in particular towards the town of Schaerbeek and Brussels and was visible for kilometers around. According to firefighters, the smoke is not toxic but nearby residents have been asked to keep doors and windows closed. Measures which have since been lifted. No injuries were reported.
