This weekend marks the start of the traditional Annecy Animation Festival! But that’s not all: other events and activities are also organized in and around Annecy. Here’s a preview of what to expect.

The weekend event: The Animation Festival

The Annecy Animation Festival 2024 begins this Sunday, June 9 and will continue until June 15. On the program: short and feature films in competition, outdoor screenings, exclusive previews, workshops, activities, conferences and signing sessions. This festival, now famous throughout the world, attracts nearly 16,000 people from 100 different countries each year.

This year, new features are being added to the edition, such as a new non-competitive category for feature films, called “Annecy presents”, as well as a new space, XR&GAMES, which will combine animation, immersive realities and video games.

This Sunday evening, several free screenings are organized at the Pâquier:

  • Athleticus – 7 p.m./8 p.m.
  • Arte does its karaoke – 8 p.m./10 p.m.
  • Hopper and the Dark Hamster – 10:15 p.m./11:50 p.m.

Please note that most indoor sessions are only accessible to accredited people, and by reservation. For some films, single-show tickets will be available to the general public. As for outdoor screenings, they are open to everyone, free of charge and without reservation, whether accredited or not.

The whole weekend

  • Citizen Festival of Living Together – Meythet. Organized by the MJC Center Social Victor Hugo, this first edition will address the themes of the environment, digital technology and harassment. Explore these topics through various activities and events: concerts, shows, exchanges, workshops and local product stands. Refreshment bar and catering available on site. Free – Friday and Saturday – Square J. Chamey.
  • National Agricultural Days – Serraval. The Alpage school opens its doors to you as part of the National Agricultural Days 2024. Come and discover pastoralism, its alpine professions and its productions. On the program for this weekend: visit to the alpine school (2 p.m./3 p.m.), games and entertainment (3 p.m./4 p.m.), manufacturing of butter and cheese (4 p.m./4:30 p.m.), and tastings (4:30 p.m./5 p.m.). Free – Saturday and Sunday – Alpine school of Grande Montagne.

Friday June 7

  • Concert: New Game choir – Annecy-le-Vieux. See you for this annual concert. On the program: a repertoire that is always very current and international, but above all energetic and unifying with pieces by Queen, Maurane, Police, M, Sister Act, Lady Gaga… Sweet and savory delicacies available on site.   • Blind test and DJ evening – Seynod. The Bistro du Treige is organizing a musical evening. Do you love the 80s and know all the classics by heart? This evening is made for you!   • The Garbage Men in concert – Epagny. The Café de la Poste in Épagny welcomes the trio The Garbage Men for a fiery concert, with Rock’n’Roll, authentic Rockabilly and Blues. Free – 7 p.m./9 p.m.
  • Talk “The Savoyard bell towers” – Thônes. Christian Regat, former journalist and lecturer, invites you to an in-depth discovery of the Savoyard bell towers, from Maurienne to Chablais, covering a period from the Middle Ages to the present day. Free – From 8 p.m. – Salle des 2 Lachat.
  • Blood donation – Vieugy. A blood donation only takes an hour. With just one donation you can save three lives. Don’t forget to bring your ID and not come on an empty stomach. 4 p.m./7 p.m. – La Bruyère Room.
  • La Petite Crique by the Palace de Menthon – Menthon-Saint-Bernard. The Palace of Menthon and Subtil Sound invite you to the Petite Crique. Enjoy an evening with stunning sunset views. A la carte: cocktails, drinks and platters to share, all accompanied by La Pastille Verte. Free – From 6:30 p.m.

Saturday June 8

  • Alpine Designers Market –Annecy. Discover an exceptional creators’ market, highlighting originality and creativity. There you will find unique and artisanal pieces made with passion and know-how: jewelry, clothing, accessories, decoration and art. Free – 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. – Vicenza Pier.
  • Go boating –Annecy. Paddle Eau Douce and the UNCA club invite you to the Fait du Nautisme with a range of free activities: equipment tests with Decathlon stores, yoga on the beach, SUP races for children and teenagers, and many other nautical activities to discover. From 1:30 p.m. – Albigny Beach.
  • Sale of second life products –Annecy. The Alpine Side store is organizing a sale of second-hand or slightly defective products, for the benefit of the Enfance 74 association. Free – Courier Center – 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Hip Hop and RnB evening – Pringy. L’Amnésie de Pringy, in partnership with The Art School Center dance school, invites you to a Hip Hop and RnB evening. Join the school’s troupe of dancers and enjoy mixes from New York DJ TRIX to liven up the evening. Free – Reservations recommended – 10 p.m./2 a.m.
  • Sacred music concert: from baroque to gospel – Sevrier. The Sevrier Choir, made up of around forty choristers, will perform works by Couperin, Schubert, Bach, Buxtehude, Purcell, as well as gospel standards. They will be accompanied by Albanian musical workshops. €10/person (free – 12 years old) – 8:30 p.m. – Sevrier Church.
  • Conference: 27ᵉ BCA in the Haut-Savoyard resistance – Lovagny. Conference by Sébastien Châtillon Colonne – Doctor in history. Haute-Savoie is certainly a land of resistance, but did you know that the first resistance fighters were soldiers? Free – From 3 p.m. – Château de Montrottier.
  • Firemen’s Ball – Alby-sur-Chéran. The Alby-sur-Chéran Firefighters’ Ball is back! From 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., country music with The Hillbilly Rockers Band, and from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m., mixes by DJ Myke. Free entry until 10 p.m. then €5/person – 7 p.m./3 a.m. – Fire station.
  • Hiking festival – Dingy-Saint-Clair. Organized by “Les Randonneurs de la CHA”, this day offers 5 climbing routes for all levels: La Croix Bouvier (9 km – departure 7:00 a.m.), Le Lachat (8 km – departure 7:30 a.m.), Cornet – Chessenay (7 km – departure 8:30 a.m.), Plaine du Fier (6 km – departure 10:00 a.m.) and the Botanical Circuit (3 km – departure 10:00 a.m.). Registration required 1/2 hour before departure – Village square – Shoes and suitable clothing required.

Sunday June 9

  • Creators Market – Veyrier-du-Lac. Meet us for an exceptional designer market. Discover jewelry, decoration, illustrations, zero waste products, fashion for women and children, soaps, cosmetics, pottery, ceramics, and many other gems. Free – 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. – The port.
  • Garage sale – Saint-Girod. Organized by the Saint-Girod schools penny. Small meals and refreshments available on site, with a festive atmosphere provided by a music group between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Free – 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. – Saint-Girod School.
  • Critérium du Dauphiné – Thônes. Stage 8 of this bike race: Thônes > Plateau des Glières, 152.5 km. Departure from Thônes at 10:15 a.m. for the climb to the Col de la Forclaz de Montmin, followed by the Col des Esserieux. The runners will pass again through Thônes, rue de la Tournette, around 11:36/11:44 a.m. for a climb to Saint-Jean-de-Sixt via the ascent of Salève, before joining the Plateau des Glières. Free – Difficult traffic – City center.
  • Vintage Mécani’k – Choisy. Choisy en Fêtes invites you to the 3rd edition of Vintage Mécani’k, which promises many surprises. This day will offer a wonderful retrospective of old models from all brands, with the program: exchanges between enthusiasts, exhibition of cars, motorcycles, tractors and trucks, as well as various activities.
